Welcome to a new year of Future City. This is a safe place to discuss, share, and encourage one another. I can't wait until the state competition in Seattle. Let's go!
Please review the following link (http://www.mckinstry.com/#/?floor=main) for some great ideas. Each floor will give you incite into today’s green building designs. It was my pleasure to meet all of you this afternoon let me know if you have any questions.
Every city has different sized blocks. An average "large" block in the US (one side) is 660 ft. long, or 1/8th of a mile. A square block contains 435,600 square feet, or 10 acres. Remember 43,560 is an acre and 5280 is one mile. If you decide on a 660 ft. block for your project, each square block will be 13.2 inches (50 to 1 scale). Therefore, you will not be able to fit an even number of blocks on your board. However, if you make each block 600 ft at the 50 to 1 scale, you might think you would be able to fit exactly eight blocks on your 24" X 48" board (600/50=12"). However, this is not the case. Can anyone tell me why? If no one responds by tomorrow I will give you the answer.
More information: If the average residential lot is 10,000 square feet the 50 to 1 scale will give us a 2" by 2" residential lot size.
Please review my math and check the following link.
The reason why is because of the rodes, but in the furure we might not have rodes at all! The idea of an under ground transport systen is a great idea! I was also wondering if our model is going to be a complete city with heighrises of is it an emergency housing situation with make shift hutts or other quick shelters. If anyone knows for sure contact me on this blog.
Our model city does not have to have a disaster in it. We could show our design as influenced by past disasters and how it prevents them from disrupting our city. The point of the model is to show off our design and parts of our submitted SimCity simulation.
we don't have a meting on wednesday beacause of vetrins day. now your homwork is to say thanks to one of the soldiers who served and write down his name on this blog.
Regarding using temporary housing, if you look at the rubric, you will see that there is nothing saying anything about temp housing. There is one part that states incorporating essay topic into model regarding the living structures. We do need to have affordable, green housing. Check the rubric for the model on the future city site.
We need an engineer mentor. Keep asking your friends and neighbors in the area.

ReplyDelete1) If you are a simulator, run the program so you can get familiar with it.
2) Get on the blog (if you are seeing this, you are successful.)
3) If you are still looking for something to do, find out what LEED or green building construction is.
