Jacob is going to be head of the simers so make sure that you tell him anything you are going to change in the writing or presentation so he and the simers can make the virtual (aka sim city)match. The judges like that. Mayor Celine
To start the essay, I would explain the name of the city, what the word means and the location of the city. Look at some examples on the future city web site: www.futurecity.org

Here is an example of a start: When Yoake’s founders envisioned their City of Light, they decided that fuel cells would play key roles. Engineers built transportation systems relying partially on PEM fuel cells, industrial sectors powered by microbial and solid oxide fuel cells, and commercial zones utilizing PEM-powered robots. They knew that fuel cells remain one of the most environmentally friendly technologies available. Although advancements have been made since their introduction in the 1800’s, the basic system remains the same: fuel cells are electrochemical energy conversion devices containing a cathode and an anode. An electrolyte carries charged particles from one electrode to the other. Hydrogen and oxygen, both renewable, are used in the operation of a fuel cell, the only byproducts being heat and water.
Lots of people go to the regionals the day before it starts and stay at a hotel overnight. Usualy so that they don't have to wake up at 4:30 in the morning! I'm going the day before this year. Mayor Celine
This is not an endorsement, just information to pass on. Make sure you say it is for Future City competition.
I know that you have a school group coming over for the Future Cities Competition. We would love to host you, your students, and their parents. I can offer you very competitive rates of $69.99 per room. This includes a complimentary breakfast, complimentary parking, and wireless internet. We also have a pool, hot tub, and sauna. We are very kid friendly and have a shuttle that could take you back and forth to the competition. We are only a few blocks from the Seattle Center, so you could walk to the event as well. Please keep me in mind for when you do decide to book!
this is all very great news and thanks for the links Mrs.Remmen I am very thankfull for them they will help alot and I hope to see you in Seattle Mrs.Celine i'll also have to take a ride from my grandpa so if any of you need a ride just let me know so I can see if any of you can come with me so GO FUTURE CITY!

hey xan I need your e-mail adress again with noah cleaning everything could go missing so please post it here thanks, and I can't figure out how to start our outline PLEASE HELP ME!
I would start with something stating the green goals of our city. For example, The importance of having a zero carbon footprint to the future of life on our planet is one of the driving goals in the design of our city.
Ideas for outline: Start with living space - how do we meet the needs of citizens? How do we meet the needs of lower income and homeless? (Community housing?) How do our living spaces adapt to various sizes and style needs? How long will our housing last? Next discuss items we have researched: How do we use green building technologies? Green building materials, green construction methods (lower energy usage), reuse of materials, (Check the web site Mr. Dunn provided in the model forum). Is the living space adaptable? Is the living space nice to live in? What makes it a nice place to live (indoors and outdoors). What makes our material economic, efficient and sustainable? (remember the bamboo?) Describe tradeoffs between efficeint, economic and sustainable materials. Discuss the environmental footprint of the living space. Discuss durability and maintenance of the living space. Describe the quality of life of the citicens living here. Discuss benefits of the living space design to the community and environment. Remember to discuss the role of engineering diciplines in the development of the living space throughout the essay.
Green ideas: Smart grid - creating electricity using smaller home or businesses - solar, wind, geothermal and putting excess back into the grid. Using electricity during off-peak times - dishwashers, etc, that know when to run off peak. See the link:http://www.idahostatesman.com/business/story/967327.html
Bamboo, straw or other renewable resource for building materials - Portland has some straw and mud housing, low cost, very energy efficient. See the link. http://www.idahostatesman.com/newsupdates/story/966167.html
Composting waste. City of Olympia recycles all food waste, paper, yard waste into compost. Other examples - See the link: http://www.kitsapsun.com/news/2009/nov/09/north-mason-fiber-environmental-stewardship-close-/?partner=RSS
make it fun - think of unique ways to make biking, walking, bussing fun - see example. http://blog.oregonlive.com/commuting/2009/11/one_way_to_change_commuter_beh.html
